“Hand-made pots for everyday use in the kitchen and home”
I am a potter based in The Forest of Dean. I make two ranges of pots; wood-fired saltglaze and hand-thrown porcelain.
As well as potting, I love gardening and cooking and grow a lot of my own veg, I enjoy making pots for food which work well in the kitchen; dishes which can be taken straight from the oven to the table or large bowls brimming with colourful salads.

In 2011 I travelled around south India, visiting wood-firing potters along my way. In a night market in Mumbai I bought a beautifully carved wooden stamp which I have used to make this pendant. The design is of a mango - which was fitting as I was there at the start of monsoon season when a vast variety of delicious mangos were ripe.
Glazed celadon green with speckles of wood ash and fired in the wood-fired slat glaze kiln. Hung on a twisted pale green, (with subtle sparkle) wool necklace, (also made by myself) which measures approximately 500mm circumference/ 250mm length. The necklace can be simply tied at the desired length to fit with different outfits and necklines.
The exact two necklaces photographed are for sale, please select dark celadon or pale celadon at checkout to make your request. I thought it would be helpful to have them photographed together to show the beautiful and subtle variations present in the glaze.

With a dimple each side these sit perfectly in the hand without the need for a handle. Perfect for cream or milk.

These pots are part of my porcelain range, I make them to set sizes, weighing the clay and carefully measuring with callipers as I go. As they are hand-thrown they are all subtly different and may vary slightly from the pieces featured in the photos.

Squared dish, with stamp decorated base. I use this kind of pot a lot in the kitchen for baking fruit crumble or serving vegetables on the table.
I threw this pot on the wheel without a base and altered the shape whilst still soft. Once leather hard I join the base, rolling it up around the sides to form a rounded edge. Stamp decorated with my little wooden stamp. I make this kind of pot in two sizes - this is the larger of the two. (There is a smaller companion pot also available for sale in my online shop).
I left the outside of this pot un-slipped, the colour is the natural colour of the clay with saltglaze. Inside is a creamy to toasty orange shino. Fired in the wood-fired slat glaze kiln.

A useful little pot for salt in the kitchen, seeds for sprinkling or as a pot for serving mustard or other sauces.
A small squared footed pot with spoon. I constructed this pot from a folded slab of clay, with the feet modelled and joined. The little spoon I made by carefully pinching and shaping in my hands.
Glazed celadon green outside. The glaze inside is a warm shino. Fired in the wood-fired slat glaze kiln.

Creamy pale glaze inside, the outside is the colour of the clay with just the salt and wood ash- a paler (less reduced) tone than usual. Fired in the wood-fired slat glaze kiln.
A very functional pot which sits well on a draining board next to the sink, allowing utensils and cutlery to drain after washing.

A tall squared lidded store jar. This pot is thrown on the wheel without a base, allowing me to square it whilst it is soft on the wheel. When leather hard I join it's base. The lid is hand-built with a pulled knob on top.
The outside of the pot is the colour of the clay with just the salt and ash, naturally ranging in colour on the different faces of the pot and even top to bottom. The inside has a celadon glaze, merging into tenmoku brown where heavily reduced.

Hand thrown, turned and stamp decorated beakers. Glazed orange shino outside with celadon green glaze inside. Fired in the wood-fired salt glaze kiln.
I have taken photos from both sides, one side is slightly lustrous and the other slightly more matt. I am pleased with how the pattern of the stamp decoration is also visible on the inside of the pot where the salt has just caught it, slightly bleaching the green of the celadon glaze.
